Indian Street Food (Inside Shawarma Paradise) Introduce
For residents and students in Arizona, particularly in the busy Tempe area, finding authentic, quick, and satisfying international cuisine is a high priority. Indian Street Food, uniquely located inside Shawarma Paradise at 1045 E Lemon St, offers a specialized menu dedicated to the vibrant flavors and popular dishes found on the streets of India. This establishment stands out in the local dining scene by focusing on traditional street food favorites, known as 'Chaat,' alongside hearty, regional main courses.
The experience is designed for convenience, a perfect fit for a fast-paced environment like Tempe near the Arizona State University (ASU) campus. Customers have noted the efficiency of ordering via kiosk, which greatly streamlines the process for those under a time constraint, such as travelers heading to the airport or students between classes. The service model allows for both a quick dine-in experience—with food often served in practical to-go containers—or easy takeaway and delivery.
The menu is a celebration of Indian vegetarian street food, featuring generously portioned and highly authentic options. Signature dishes include the popular Samosa Chaat, the flavorful Chhole Kulcha, and the rich Pav Bhaji. Patrons consistently highlight the authenticity of the taste, with dishes closely mirroring the flavors found in India, though sometimes with regional variations, such as the chhole having a tangier profile. The restaurant also addresses the need for thirst-quenching options with traditional Indian drinks like Mango Lassi and Rose Lassi, alongside Spiced Buttermilk.
While the taste and portion sizes receive high marks, new visitors should be prepared for an interior setting that is shared with another concept (Shawarma Paradise) and an atmosphere that is primarily casual and functional. Despite the positive staff interactions and quick service, some visitors have remarked on a noticeable smell and a lack of refined ambiance, consistent with a very quick-service, high-traffic location. Ultimately, Indian Street Food is a destination for the flavor and value of true Indian street food, prioritizing authenticity and generous servings over luxury dining.
Indian Street Food is a focused and authentic dining concept situated within the shared space of Shawarma Paradise in Tempe, Arizona. It specializes exclusively in classic vegetarian Indian street snacks and main dishes. This establishment addresses the high demand in the ASU area for flavorful, non-traditional Indian fare that moves beyond the typical curry house menu. Its strength lies in its specialized offerings, which provide a taste of genuine Indian comfort food in a fast-casual format.
The core of the menu revolves around popular Chaat and other regional specialties. From the crunchy, layered textures of Chaat items like Pani Puri, Sev Puri, and Dahi Puri to the filling main courses like Rajma Chawal (rice with kidney beans) and Pav Bhaji (vegetable mash with soft bread rolls), the offerings are deeply rooted in Indian culinary traditions. The generous portion sizing and competitive pricing make it an especially attractive option for budget-conscious diners and those looking to share a substantial meal.
The restaurant is strategically located at 1045 E Lemon St Ste A, Tempe, AZ 85281, USA. This address places it in a prime spot near the Arizona State University (ASU) campus, making it highly accessible to students and faculty, as well as locals in the surrounding neighborhoods.

For Arizona food enthusiasts seeking an authentic and high-value Indian experience in Tempe, choosing Indian Street Food is a choice for genuine flavor and substantial value. The primary reason to opt for this venue is its uncompromising focus on genuine street food, a culinary segment often underrepresented in the local Arizona market. Dishes like the Samosa Chaat and Pav Bhaji are prepared to closely resemble their traditional Indian counterparts, offering a depth of flavor that appeals to both Indian diaspora and adventurous local foodies.
The excellent value proposition is another key draw. Customers consistently emphasize the generous portion sizes, noting that one order of an entree like Chhole Kulcha or Pav Bhaji is often sufficient for two people, making it one of the most budget-friendly international dining choices near ASU. This high yield for the price point is a critical factor for students and families in the area.
Furthermore, the convenience offered is superb. The integration of self-ordering kiosks and the availability of immediate dine-in, takeaway, and delivery services cater perfectly to the on-the-go lifestyle of the Tempe community. The friendly staff also contributes positively, ensuring a welcoming and efficient transaction.
It is important to manage expectations regarding the dining environment. Since the concept operates "Inside Shawarma Paradise," the setting is strictly functional and fast-casual; those looking for a traditional, full-service, high-ambiance Indian restaurant may find the setting lacking. Visitors should also note the highly specific nature of the menu; it is primarily vegetarian street food and not a venue for a wide range of Northern or Southern Indian curries. While the flavors are generally excellent and authentic, as with any street food, a dish like the Rajma Chawal may occasionally miss the mark for some palates, perhaps having an 'off spice taste' as noted in one review, or being slightly tangier than traditional preparation, such as the chhole.

Indian Street Food (Inside Shawarma Paradise) Reviews
We stopped here on our way to the airport during a holiday. Ordering from the kiosk was quick and convenient, which was perfect given our time crunch. We tried samosa chaat, kulche chole, and rajma chawal. The samosa chaat was tasty, kulche chole decent, but the rajma chawal lacked flavor and had an off spice taste. Portions were generous for the price. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and food was served in to-go boxes, allowing for dine-in or takeaway. The place looked clean but had a noticeable smell.
May 29 · Anu RaoOrdered online from here in my first Phoenix visit. Ordered Pav Bhaji and Chole Kulche. Both were very close to authentic Indian taste, but the chole were tangier than usual. I really liked the portion size, it was very late. One plate was enough for two people. The packing also had disposable spoons as well.
May 15 · mansi jainThis place stays open until 12am, I tried chole kulcha and vada pav. Both items were really nice, great service.
August 25 · Pranav SanghadiaIt was a rainy day and we drove a long distance to have some Indian samosa chat. The atmosphere was nice, a small place, a just like a hole in the wall but nice. People working in kitchen were wearing no caps and combing their hair while preparing food. The Samosa Chat we ordered wasn’t fresh at all and looked staled samosas and we couldn’t eat and had to bring it home and throw. Indian chai was okay but too sweet. Front counter representative Chiragh was very courteous.Won’t recommend for Indian street food and can’t say anything about Shawarma.
June 08 · Tariq NiaziAbsolutely loved this level of effort to apologize for a non-mistake. Love that they went the extra mile, and the sev puri was absolutely banging! So was the Vada pav. Only note is that the pav bhaji could have had a bit more flavor/spice, other than that it doesnt get any closer to authentic home-style food and taste. 10/10 would recommend!
