The Green Woodpecker Introduce
Perched in the heart of Midtown at the revitalized Park Central Mall, The Green Woodpecker has quickly established itself as a vibrant, essential destination for Arizona locals seeking the perfect blend of craft beverages, exceptional food, and a welcoming atmosphere. This unique concept masterfully combines the best elements of a German-inspired Beer garden, a sophisticated Cocktail bar, and a dedicated Taco restaurant, creating a space that feels both Cozy and Trendy.
The establishment is a testament to family and local expertise, curated by the Poolhouse Group—the same Phoenix family behind Gadzooks Enchiladas & Soup. The deep roots in the local community are evident, particularly in the beer selection, which is handpicked by Drew Pool of the acclaimed Wren House Brewing Co. This ensures patrons receive not just a great beer selection, but one that actively Serves local specialty. The atmosphere is designed for maximum comfort, featuring sleek interiors with a “regal” color scheme of deep burgundy and dark green, balanced by a spacious, sun-drenched outdoor patio—perfect for groups and solo diners alike.
The food menu, though concise, is highly focused on quality and flavor, with a commitment to fresh ingredients. Customers consistently rave about the Mexican-inspired fare, from the richly divine burritos to the "SO GOOD" tacos made with fresh handmade tortillas. The high praise for the "flavorful" carne asada and the "tasty" al pastor—often carved right off a rotating trompo grill—underscores the restaurant's quality-over-quantity approach. Whether you are looking for a casual post-work drink, a venue for Groups, or a late-night bite, The Green Woodpecker delivers a fresh, high-quality, and wholly Arizonan experience.

For those in Arizona searching for a go-to gathering spot that offers substance beyond the typical pub fare, The Green Woodpecker is an undeniable choice. It is worth choosing for three compelling reasons: the best-of-both-worlds concept, the world-class beer curation, and the unexpectedly high quality of the food.
First, it seamlessly merges the Best-of-Both-Worlds Concept of a dedicated craft beer destination and a high-quality taco bar. Instead of settling for mediocre bar snacks, patrons receive authentic, rave-worthy Mexican cuisine—the burrito, for instance, was described as "richly divine" and a "king." This integrated approach means you never have to compromise between having an outstanding drink and an equally outstanding meal. It’s the ideal solution for a night out where everyone in the group has a different craving, from fine cocktails to a quick, satisfying taco.
Second, the World-Class Beer Curation elevates it beyond a standard local bar. The menu is not a random collection; it’s a thoughtfully selected list of local gems, including the highly popular Wren House offerings, and respected international craft beers. This careful selection, backed by the expertise of a local craft brewing family, guarantees that Arizona beer enthusiasts can always find something new, rare, and high-quality to enjoy, cutting through the richness of the food with "citrusy grace," as one reviewer noted.
Finally, the entire experience is set in a Cozy, Trendy, and Highly Accommodating Environment. From the inviting "midtown calm" and communal tables perfect for "big dinner dreams," to the practical amenities like the Dog-friendly patio, Happy hour, and full accessibility, The Green Woodpecker is designed for the comfort of the Arizona community. It’s a versatile spot where a business meeting can transition into a casual dinner, and a solo diner can feel just as welcome as a large party enjoying the fast service and flavorful space.

July 30 · BThe tacos were SO GOOD. Fresh handmade tortillas and the pastor was so tasty. I'm not usually big on carne asada but it was so flavorful here. Definitely coming back!
May 08 · Ley HIt was quiet, but at an odd 4:00 hour. Very cute set up! Heat lamps outside… it was a bit chilly today. Beer, wine, and tacos. ( and flowers which I think is just so sweet!) There was good music playing on the overhead. Walk up service is available from outside or there’s a small bar inside. Also lots of to go items available. The very kind bartender/server let me sample four beers before choosing one! Altogether super cute place!
November 16 · Jessica BDelicious and affordable. All the salsa’s have a kick to them but nothing too overwhelming. The el pastor burrito with everything in it is exceptional. The asada burrito is also very good! 10/10! Affordable, great spot, great service, quick eats!Photos show half burritos bc they were so good. It was only after eating half the burrito that I was like yeah…I’m writing a review about this spot.
February 07 · Andrew ValenzuelaThis used to be my favorite spot until recently. I refer people there like crazy, meet friends there multiple times in a week until a few weeks ago. The accuracy of the orders went away, their burrito portion shrunk in half but the price remained the same. The woman cooking the food was so kind and friendly. Now every time I go in I'm met with poor attitudes. It's not uncommon to wait 30+ minutes for one burrito to be made. The chips are constantly burnt now. Last night I ordered three burritos and chips, I waited OVER AN HOUR for my food only to get home and realize literally nothing that I paid for was in my bag. I went back 10 minutes before closing and Sarah (the employee with the poorest attitude and customer service skills) immediately says that she will refund my order. No apology, no offer to make it right, it was 9pm and every decent restaurant is closed. I don't want a refund I want what I paid and waited for. She then informs me that "this isnt my fault, you ordered with someone else and she rang it up wrong". My order was not entered wrong and the amount I paid did not match the items that Sarah gave me. I DONT CARE WHO IS AT FAULT- I WANT WHAT I ORDERED AND PAID FOR. Sarah is completely useless for her position. I will never return and will spend the rest of my life telling people to avoid this place at all costs
