Gadzooks Enchiladas and Soup Introduce
Welcome to the heart of Phoenix, Arizona, where the culinary scene is as vibrant and exciting as the desert landscape. If you are a local resident or a visitor searching for truly unique and flavorful Mexican food, particularly a place that has made a name for itself by "redefining the enchilada," then look no further than Gadzooks Enchiladas and Soup. This local specialty Mexican restaurant offers a fresh, fast-casual approach to classic comfort food, making it a beloved spot for those who appreciate quality, customization, and bold flavors.
Gadzooks has built its reputation in the Valley on an innovative concept: allowing you, the customer, to custom-build your own perfect enchilada, taco, nachos, or salad. Forget the pre-made platters; here, you control the ingredients, choosing from a variety of fresh, scratch-made proteins, sauces, and toppings. This assembly-line style of ordering ensures your meal is prepared exactly to your specifications and delivered hot and fast, a concept that has earned the restaurant a loyal, almost "cult-like" following in the Phoenix area. This approach to customization is what truly sets Gadzooks apart in Arizona's rich landscape of Mexican dining options.
The focus at Gadzooks is on making everything from scratch daily, from their special 50/50 flour-corn tortillas to their rich sauces and unique toppings like the sweet and spicy cornbread stuffing and honey vinaigrette slaw. They take classic flavors and textures—like the tanginess of tomatillo chicken or the smokiness of the red sauce—and layer them together to create an explosion of taste in every bite.

Gadzooks Enchiladas and Soup is a compelling choice for Arizona diners for several key reasons, but its dedication to the 'perfect enchilada' is the main draw. It is an ideal spot if you appreciate the ability to personalize your dish completely, ensuring you get the exact flavor combination you crave. Many patrons rave about the 'Christmas' style sauce (both red and green) and unique fillings like the Modelo-braised bison (when available) and the Smashed Jack Potato.
The menu's variety, extending from the namesake enchiladas and comforting soups like the Tortilla Soup and Spicy Corn Chowder, to the popular Festival Tacos, offers something for everyone in a group. The Festival Tacos in particular are often cited as an award-winning must-try, combining roasted tomatillo chicken, the sweet and spicy cornbread, honey vinaigrette slaw, and jalapeño ranch on a 50/50 tortilla for an unforgettable texture and flavor profile.
While the restaurant is widely praised for its food quality, as with any popular establishment, service experiences can vary, particularly during peak hours or with high volume takeout orders. The fact that the ingredients are made fresh daily, including the special tortillas, contributes to the outstanding flavor but can occasionally lead to unexpected delays if demand outstrips supply, such as running out of a key item like tortillas late in the evening. It is always best to be patient, as the fresh ingredients and customizable experience are worth the wait.
Ultimately, Gadzooks offers a fast, affordable, and incredibly flavorful experience that honors traditional Mexican comfort food while injecting a modern, customizable twist that appeals directly to the Arizona lifestyle. For a great lunch or dinner that is guaranteed to be made with fresh, quality ingredients and a personal touch, this Phoenix gem is definitely worth checking out.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1It was my first time here at Gadzooks & I was absolutely amazed by how delicious this place is AND the amazing service. The general manager walked me thru the whole menu and I told her to take the reign on whatever combos she thought was good. And let me tell you she did not disappoint! I can tell she is so passionate for Gadzooks and for that reason I will be going back time & time again!!
October 09 · tessa lopkerMy family placed a take out order from the location at 4031 E Camelback Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85018. Our order was estimated to be ready at 7:25pm. We arrived at 7:29pm and checked in with the cashier, we were told by one of the guys on the line that our order would be a bit longer as the team had run out of tortillas and needed to make more.Huh....We found it odd gadzooks would run out of the main ingredient for their dishes, but we were ok waiting for fresh tortillas and we patiently sat down to wait. We chose seats right in front of the cashier and waited. We waited for over 25 minutes. So 50 minutes after we initially placed our order. To make tortillas! We received no updates, no apologies. We then eventually watched the cashier bag up a large order and place it on the back table. We continued to wait and then debated if the large bag was our order. We had already checked in and were 5 feet away from the cashier and counter the entire time, so it seemed obvious they knew we were waiting and would say something. We decided to check in again and the cashier said yes it was our order sitting on the back table getting cold. I opened the bag to check the order and explained my frustration that they didn't say anything. I was told the cashier "is new." I understand training new employees but I would think it is common sense to give the people who already checked in their very late order if they're sitting right in front of you. Or at least the line guy could have said something to him. We again received no apologies.Once we opened the order, I saw the size of the side of corn bread. I cannot believe how pitiful and small the side is. It wasn't even a square piece of corn bread which is the smallest side I'd expect. I asked about the side and the team said nothing. My Dad's bison enchiladas were burnt and my chicken enchiladas did not have creama or the right toppings.I reached out to Gadzooks by email regarding the order and received no reply. We come to Gadzooks because it is normally very tasty. I was VERY disappointed in our order and embarrassed to serve my Dad burnt dinner. I cannot recommend Gadzooks based on this experience.
September 22 · Kellye EvansAlways love to come here to have dinner thanks you again Julio for the suggestions this one was different but hit the spot definitely will always come back I had the single layer nachos with egg and beef mixed together and top off with both cheese and half scoops of red /green enchilada souce then put into the open fire oven melted cheese and recommended pickle onions, lava, verde, some crema, and cotija I added crema at the end the habanero lava is fire 🔥🔥I alway find my server Julio’s
October 15 · Taco13 MichMy husband raved about this place. Got there, only one person working, taking walk in orders and online orders. He kept apologizing and thanking me for my patience. Ordered chips, they were burnt, I was told they were all that way. But because they were free (time of day), I was S O L. I felt bad for the employee, the food was OK, but not worth the wait, or the burt chips. If you want to have a limited menu, everything on the menu should be amazing.
October 17 · Annmarie ElizondoNot. Even. Edible. My girlfriend and I ordered Gadzooks for delivery a few nights ago. We had both soups (tortilla and corn chowder) and an order of the Enchiladas, with a "side" of sweet and spicy cornbread.Where to start? The soups were disgusting and each one was packaged in two separate containers, so in total we had four to-go cups of soup. It was somewhere between difficult and impossible to distinguish one soup from the other. They were both lukewarm and drowned in greasy cheese. The enchiladas, meanwhile, looked worse than some frozen dinners I've pulled from the microwave. They were burnt on one side and, again, drowning in cheese. I think I managed two bites. My personal favorite is the cornbread (please see photo). It came stuffed into a tiny container better suited to a small side of sauce. Crumbs, literally crumbs. I think my girlfriend and I had one lousy bite of cornbread each before it was gone.We were hungry but didn't even finish our meal; it was that bad.I'd speculate that maybe I just caught this establishment on a bad night, but our meal was garbage across the board, from the presentation to the packaging to the food itself. Just awful. I will never order from Gadzooks again, I don't know how they remain open, frankly, and I'm genuinely annoyed I shelled out $60+ for this rubbish. I could have gone to Chipotle 4, 5 times for what this dump cost and I would've actually been full, at least.Under no circumstances should anyone visit this restaurant. There's plenty of better options (like, literally anywhere).
