Matt's Big Breakfast Introduce
Matt's Big Breakfast has long been a culinary institution in the Phoenix metro area, earning a reputation for perfecting simple, classic American breakfast and lunch dishes by focusing on premium, high-quality ingredients. For local Arizonans, the name is synonymous with the best morning meal you can get, featuring everything from fluffy griddlecakes to savory scrambles. The restaurant’s philosophy is straightforward: "food tastes better when prepared simply with better ingredients." This commitment translates to using cage-free eggs, cooking exclusively with real butter and extra virgin olive oil, and sourcing natural meats, making it a standout in the local dining scene.
The restaurant’s expansion into Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) is a welcome addition, ensuring that travelers—especially those from Arizona—can start their journey with a taste of home. Located post-security, this airport branch offers a carefully curated version of the main menu, designed to serve the bustling airport crowd without sacrificing the quality or the generous portions the brand is known for. Whether you have a long layover and need a satisfying meal, or an early morning flight requiring a quick bite, Matt's Big Breakfast provides a casual, welcoming atmosphere with exceptional food. It’s one of the few places at the airport where you can get a truly "big breakfast" experience, complete with table service and a full selection of beverages, including morning cocktails.
The enduring popularity of Matt’s has led to features on national television and consistent praise from food critics, and the airport location successfully carries that legacy forward. While the environment is busy and caters to a high volume of tourists and groups, the core focus remains on delivering that signature, hearty Arizona breakfast that has converted non-breakfast eaters and pleased picky palates for years. It's an excellent choice for solo diners looking for a reliable meal or groups needing a full-service option before their flight.

Choosing Matt's Big Breakfast at PHX is choosing a proven, high-quality, local Arizona dining experience over generic airport food. The primary value lies in the restaurant's non-negotiable standards for ingredients—cage-free eggs, natural meats, and the exclusive use of real butter and olive oil—which guarantees a flavorful and satisfying meal. The wide-ranging menu, offering hearty breakfast platters all day and excellent lunch sandwiches, makes it suitable for any traveler, regardless of their hunger level or time of day. The recognition of kitchen staff, like "Kevin" mentioned in one review, highlights a commitment to quality that extends beyond the front of house.
It is important for customers to be aware that the high-quality, generous portions sometimes come with a strong flavor profile, as noted by the reviewer who found the food, particularly the bacon, heavily seasoned with pepper. While service is generally highlighted as "Fast," occasional lapses in attention (like forgetting silverware) can occur in a high-traffic setting, though the staff is quick to correct issues. Despite minor drawbacks like occasional heavy seasoning or okay-but-not-great coffee, the overall consensus is that the food is "really good," "reasonably priced" for an airport, and provides the "good meal to tide us over" that travelers truly need. For a taste of a true Phoenix favorite and a genuinely filling meal before a long journey, Matt’s Big Breakfast is unequivocally worth the choice.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We had a long layover and needed a good meal to tide us over. Decided to give this place a try, and it was a winner! My wife had a Reuben sandwich and I had the turkey club. Both sandwiches were really good! The homemade chips were good as well, definitely recommend. We HAVE to shout out the cook, Kevin. These guys behind the scenes get overlooked and we had to give him some Kudos for a great meal!
July 29 · Darrin CampbellSo, first I want to say that my server had a fun personality. He was kind. I was seated quickly which is a plus. The coffee was okay—-i wouldn’t get a second cup. I had to get my own silverware because my server forgot. But I went to the bar and was immediately given utensils. The food….. someone really likes pepper HAHA Good Lawd it was a lot of pepper. I do not like pepper but I ate it. The bacon was good with good portion size BUT peppery. The sourdough toast was good. The potatoes were okay but a little greasy. The jam was more of a thin consistency BUT it was delicious. If they hold back on shaking the pepper so much I would go back! It was also reasonably priced.
September 30 · Crystal L.One of the only options when passing through PHX for breakfast early in the morning. I got the waffle and bacon option and substituted eggs instead of bacon. They were understaffed and very busy, there was one very snarky waiter, who was super rude to the only other waitress on the floor. And it took them a while to get my order out even though the place wasn’t even full. I’m sure it’s because they were understaffed. They did do the eggs properly and the waffle came with real maple syrup so that is amazing! Only pasteurized juice options.
August 06 · Raven DiazOn my layover through PHX today, I stopped in and ate at Matt's Big Breakfast. They serve all-day breakfast and some good sandwiches. It's probably been over 5 years since I've been at this spot.I went ahead and ordered the BLT with sliced avocado and a Pepsi.Service was good, good was good and atmosphere was good. I would come back. Thanks 😊
April 29 · Patrick KellyI realize airport dining can be a different experience, but this was “Matt’s big bacon Bloody Mary” with “all the trimmings and a bacon salt rim” $40 of drinks pictured. The food was alright. the sausage in the omelette was cold—maybe frozen? Which is surprising from a location that emphasizes quality fresh ingredients in their marketing.
