Features / Highlights
Several key features distinguish El Taco Tote Phoenix as a standout choice for Mexican dining in the area:
- Famous Self-Serve Salsa Bar: This is arguably the biggest draw. Customers receive their tacos with meat and a tortilla, then customize their meal with an expansive bar featuring an array of salsas (ranging from mild to a potent kick, like the popular Cambray green salsa), cilantro, diced onions, grilled onions, grilled peppers, pico de gallo, radishes, and more. Self-serve tortilla chips are also a popular amenity.
- Homemade Tortillas and Fresh Meats: The commitment to fresh, quality ingredients is evident. The restaurant features an open kitchen design where you can often watch staff mixing, rolling, and grilling both corn and flour tortillas by hand. Meats like Sirloin, Bistek, Chicken Adobado, and Barbacoa are perfectly seasoned and cooked on expansive grills, often making the tacos "next best thing" to made-to-order.
- Fast Service and Casual Vibe: Despite the high quality of food, the service is fast and efficient, minimizing wait times. You order at the counter and find a seat, which hits a sweet spot between a traditional restaurant and a quick-service spot.
- Extensive Menu Variety: Beyond the signature customizable tacos, the menu includes local items like the massive Burrotote and Nacho Fries, as well as full plates such as Chicken Enchiladas and Chile Relleno.
- Offerings for All Tastes: The menu is robust, offering Alcohol (Beer), Coffee, Comfort food, Healthy options, Late-night food, Quick bite items, and Small plates.

What is Worth Choosing
El Taco Tote stands out as a worthwhile choice for Arizona residents for several reasons that connect to the local culture and dining preferences. The establishment's roots, which started in Cd. Juarez, Mexico, and expanded to border states like Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, lend an authenticity to the menu that is often hard to find in chain restaurants. This is not Tex-Mex; it is authentic Mexican street food style, where the focus is on the quality of the meat and the freedom to dress your taco exactly how you like it.
The customizable nature is a huge draw. The Tacotote Pack, which includes 2 tacos, a side (such as Rice, Refried Beans, or the savory Charro Beans), and a drink, is a fantastic value for a full, satisfying meal. Popular taco filling choices include the marinated Pork Adobado, tender Sirloin, and flavorful Shrimp, with customers often praising the hot and flavorful shrimp option. For those seeking larger portions, the Burrotote or the Nacho Fries are highly recommended local items. Don't forget to explore the dessert menu, featuring traditional favorites like Tres Leches, Flan, and Empanadas.
Ultimately, what is worth choosing at El Taco Tote is the full experience: quick service, freshly made tortillas, perfectly seasoned meats, and the opportunity to truly personalize your meal at the expansive salsa and topping bar. It is a genuine slice of Mexican culinary tradition served up with Arizona hospitality.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I recommend the Tacotote Pack with Shrimp filling and Rice, the food was very nice with hot and flavorful shrimp. There is also a bar filled with flavorful spices for self service and the extra kick to your food experience. The refried beans were decent and the family platter with steak and shrimp and tortillas was delicious as well. Service was excellent and the staff were very friendly. I would totally recommend!
August 30 · Khoi NguyenEl Taco Tote hits that sweet spot between casual and quick. Yeah, you order at the counter and find a seat, so it's got that fast-food vibe, but the atmosphere itself is actually pretty nice.My wife and I went with the Family Platter for 2, and honestly, the portions were pretty small. We definitely needed to order two extra sides to feel satisfied. That said, the salsa bar is solid, and they've got self-serve tortilla chips and a soda fountain, which is always a win.The food was good, no complaints there, but it wasn't exactly mind-blowing, and the value felt a little off given the portion sizes. If you're looking for some quick tacos and don't expect to be wowed, El Taco Tote is a perfectly fine stop.
June 19 · Elvis GI couldn't order for ten minutes because the employee kept walking away while I was talking. He got my order wrong three times. Despite my order being wrong, it cost way too much. The food itself wasn't drained sufficiently, which demands the use of the salsa bar, which also isn't as great. The only redeeming parts of this "establishment" were the tortillas being hand made, and the amount of meat in the taco. I spent most of my time eating, trying to make it taste good, but there wasn't enough to reach any good flavor. The odor and general atmosphere were very much lacking, with what appeared to be more budget in the atmosphere of the workers than for the customers. You will find a better restaurant across the street.
April 16 · Dustin AlbaAbsolutely great food i highly recommend trying this place out, chips and big salsa bar. Freshly made tortillas and great selection of meats. Definitely a favorite of mine.
March 26 · CDon't be fooled by its humble exterior. This place is very unique and has a very fun Mexican atmosphere. Menu is simple to figure out and food was great. Can't go wrong with self serve chips and salsa
