Cheba Hut "Toasted" Subs Introduce
For Arizonans seeking a truly distinctive dining experience that elevates the humble sandwich to an art form, look no further than Cheba Hut "Toasted" Subs. This isn't your average sandwich spot; it's a counter-culture-themed destination that first took root right here in the Grand Canyon State—specifically, in Tempe near the ASU campus in 1998. The unique concept, blending creative, signature toasted subs with a laid-back, welcoming vibe, has made it a local favorite and a must-try for both Valley residents and tourists alike.
The Phoenix location, in particular, serves as a hub for those craving "dank" toasted sandwiches, inventive "munchies," and a full bar offering "cottonmouth cures," including an impressive selection of local specialty beers and craft cocktails. The atmosphere is famously casual, cozy, and trendy, intentionally designed to foster a community space where friends, college students, groups, and families can gather. It is also proudly LGBTQ+ friendly and a transgender safe space, ensuring a comfortable environment for everyone.
The menu is famed for its "toasted" subs, all creatively named after various slang strains of cannabis. These subs are served on warm bread in three sizes—the smaller "Nug" (4-inch), the "Pinner" (8-inch), and the large "Blunt" (12-inch)—and filled with high-quality, hand-sliced meats, fresh veggies, cheeses, and homemade sauces. Popular options include the White Widow (Chicken, Bacon & Ranch), the Midwest Best (Club), and the Power Plant (Guacamole & Hummus) for those seeking a veggie option.
Beyond the signature subs, the menu also features a variety of other items designed to cure any level of "the munchies." These include "munchies" like Garlic Cheese Bread, Pretzel Nuggets, and the popular Goo Balls (a sweet treat of Krispies, peanut butter, cocoa, honey, butter, and marshmallows), as well as fresh salads. For those twenty-one and older, the full bar is a major highlight, serving great beer, cocktails, and hard liquor.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Honestly, I only keep coming to this Cheba Hut location because it's so close to my house, but I have to say, the service here is easily the worst in the entire valley. When I order in the shop, it's always the same story: waiting well over 30 minutes just to get two tiny 4-inch sandwiches. To avoid the ridiculous wait, I started ordering online, but that hasn't helped either. The last three times I've ordered ahead, I showed up exactly at the quoted pickup time, and the order still wasn't ready. I'm usually pretty forgiving, but this last time really pushed it. I ordered at 11:45 AM, got there at 12:20 PM, and they hadn't even started it. They realized they never "pushed it through" to the kitchen. What made it worse was watching them finally send it through, only for the four people who walked in and ordered at the counter after me to get their food first. When I finally got my order, it was poorly constructed with minimal sauce in the center only and no avocados man (which should is apart of the sammy I ordered)I genuinely love their sandwiches, but I absolutely despise the service at this specific location. It completely ruins the experience.
September 26 · Daenah HendersonI had the white widow(chicken bacon ranch) it was awesome and very tasty! This marijuana themed sub joints atmosphere is an inhalers vision come true. This being my first and only chance to try it out. My only conclusion is this place should be everywhere. A near perfect experience. Go there and don't forget to try a goo ball!
September 18 · Richard Lawrence RaelHad the “White Widow” as a first timer. I’d like to thank all potheads who inspired this place. The sandwich was legit. Chef’s kiss! The bread was crusty on the outside and soft on inside, perfectly Parisian-esque. Imagine my delight to find that this is a chain!
August 24 · Angela ValekWe accidentally walked in looking for a different place but were pleasantly surprised—these folks make an excellent sandwich! We liked it so much we came back the next day. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, with a cozy bar and even some fun Kool-Aid options that hit the spot.
June 21 · Coleman HumphreyToday was a busy day, so a late lunch (1pm) was in order for the wife & I. So Cheba Hut (7th Street Location) was decided upon review and a bowl or two 😆We walk in and are greeted immediately, look at the menu and order what we're feeling on this lovely afternoon. I'm never let down whenever I stop by, and today was no exception. My White Widow on Garlic bread blunt was perfect, I had them hold the pickles and add turkey which turned out to be a perfect addition to the sandwich. My wife loved her sandwich too, she went with a custom touch to her The Kind and was pleased with the adjustments she made. Will definitely be back soon! Take care. 🤟🤟 5/21/2025
