Shio Ramen & Crudo Introduce
For Arizona food enthusiasts seeking an exceptional Japanese dining experience, particularly those craving the perfect bowl of ramen or impeccably fresh seafood, **Shio Ramen & Crudo** in Scottsdale has firmly established itself as a must-visit destination. This restaurant lives up to its name, specializing in both masterfully prepared ramen and delicate, high-quality crudo (raw preparations), offering a delightful culinary duality that is both comforting and sophisticated. Located conveniently off Scottsdale Road, it represents a contemporary take on classic Japanese cuisine, providing a fresh, trendy, and cozy spot for locals and visitors alike.
The ramen here is consistently praised for its craftsmanship. As one delighted customer noted, the broth is "rich, delicate, and perfectly balanced with that clean, savory flavor you only get from true craftsmanship," highlighting the dedication to authentic preparation. The menu features all the classics, from the light and savory **Shio Ramen** ($17.00) and the rich **Tonkotsu Ramen** to the vibrant **Spicy Miso Ramen** ($17.00). Customers rave that the Tonkotsu strikes a perfect balance—a mix of pork and chicken base that is lighter and thinner than traditional versions, yet still "maintaining a flavor you'd expect from tonkotsu ramen." The noodles are described as "springy and chewy, not too overcooked or al dente," proving that attention is paid to every component of the dish.
Beyond the ramen, the restaurant showcases its other half—the Crudo and sushi offerings. The selection of **Hand Rolls** (including unique options like Tunamole and Yellowtail Ponzu) and extensive **Special Rolls** (such as the Arizona Roll and Dragon Roll) ensures there's always something new and fresh to try. The sushi is highly regarded for its freshness, with a customer noting that the rolls, like the popular **Rainbow Roll**, tasted fresh "without a lasting 'fishy' taste." The overall consensus among local diners is that Shio Ramen & Crudo offers an outstanding combination of value and taste, quickly earning a spot on the "short list" of Phoenix-area restaurants worth visiting again and again.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Absolutely loved it — the broth was rich, delicate, and perfectly balanced with that clean, savory flavor you only get from true craftsmanship. The noodles had just the right texture, and every topping complemented the bowl beautifully. You can taste the care and skill in every bite. Easily one of the best ramen experiences I’ve had — comforting, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. I’ll definitely be coming back!
October 18 · Maciek LykoMy partner and I were feeling some soup today and ended up choosing Shio as our lunch spot. We arrived around 1 PM on a Saturday and were honestly surprised as to how empty it was. We were greeted and seated immediately. We were offered the lunch special which ran until 2 PM that day. We ended up getting the Spicy Shio and Tonkotsu ramen ($13 each) as well as the Rainbow Roll and the Crunch Spicy Tuna Roll ($4 each if I recall?). For the value, this was an excellent lunch option. We also got the Crispy Rice spicy tuna appetizer ($10 for 5 pieces). After this meal, my partner and I whole-heartedly agree this is our favorite ramen spot currently in Phoenix, factoring value and taste as the most deciding factors. Their tonkotsu ramen was a mix of pork/chicken base - making it balanced between a lighter/thinner ramen both, yet still maintaining a flavor you'd expect from tonkotsu ramen. The spicy miso had a mild kick - so for a person like me who likes spicy, it was probably the minimum I'd like from a ramen, and for someone who doesn't like ramen, just be careful it might catch up to you after a few bites. With that being said, the spice isn't overpowering in my opinion, and the flavors all balance well. The chashu was soft and flavorful, and not too salty. The noodles were springy and chewy, not too overcooked or al dente. The Rainbow roll comes with a mix of white tuna, shrimp, salmon, and regular tuna. The crunchy spicy tuna roll was 8 pieces with tempura flakes (although to me I might call it closer to panko flakes?) on top. Both of these rolls were good options and the sushi tasted fresh without a lasting "fishy" taste.I ended my meal with a spicy tuna hand roll. The seaweed comes in a plastic wrap, so you know it's about to be fresh and not soggy. It comes with a good bit of tuna that had a small kick but not too spicy. It was a good last bite.Since moving to Phoenix, my partner and I have slowly been adding restaurants to our repertoire of restaurants we'd visit again or restaurants we'd take friends if they visited. Shio easily makes this currently short list. I wish I could gatekeep this restaurant, but I feel like I'd be doing them a disservice in doing so. We felt like we got great value coming in for their lunch special, but we'd come back even for their full price menu (which itself is not outrageously overpriced like other ramen places or other restaurants can be nowadays).
October 04 · Brian TranShio is essentially a hidden gem and tucked away off the main road. It is sandwiched between multiple other restaurants so pay attention to the doors!Overall the aesthetic is sleek and modern and the staff is extremely friendly. Newton made the experience more enjoyable with his humor and suggestions and seemed very genuine.Now….the Ramen. We took Newtons recommendation and ordered the creamy chicken which was not on the menu and let me say it’s the best Ramen I have had outside of Japan. Happy hour pricing at dinner is the icing on the cake.10/10 come check this place out before it gets too busy.
May 16 · J HillI was excited to see that another ramen joint opened up here after Clever Ramen closed. My husband and I were happy with our food and felt that we received a good meal for the price point! Our server was a bit flustered and sometimes took awhile to check-in on us. We weren’t too bothered with it since we both know how it is to work in a restaurant but he recognized it, apologized and comped our sushi for us! Overall we had a pleasant experience and plan to come back again in the future.
May 25 · Jecelle LachGood lunch deals. Surprisingly, it was very mid, it lacked some flavor (it definitely looked better than the taste)The broth was rich in terms of grease from the fat, but it tasted like it needed more garlic and salt. The sushi was very fresh (little small, but understandable since it was lunch menu, limited to one item per ramen order unfortunately)This was very unfortunate since I had a high expectations. Perhaps because it was lunch menu and no option to add stuff. I would like to try it again next time.
